Copy editing

looking at the technical aspects of your writing

How will a copy edit improve your manuscript?

A copy edit is another sentence-level check, but this time it looks at the technical side of your writing. I'll be concentrating on:

  • Chapter sequencing

  • Consistency of proper-noun spelling

  • Dialogue tags and punctuation

  • Logic of timeline

  • Any plot holes that might have been missed

  • Spelling, grammar, syntax, punctuation, hyphenation

  • Layout

  • Formatting chapter headings with Word styles

I'll also create style sheets showing:

  • Any editorial decisions on spelling, hyphenation etc.

  • Names/spellings of key characters and places

These can be passed on to the proofreader to check for any inconsistencies that might have slipped through during the revision stages.

She explained everything to me, clearly and thoroughly

Deborah was great to work with. When I told her that I was a first-time author and I wasn't sure about all the different types of editing, she explained everything to me, clearly and thoroughly. The manuscript evaluation and copy edit that I received from her was very detailed and extremely helpful. Would definitely recommend her!
